The live and online event will serve as an alternative platform for manufacturers to continuously connect and network with buyers as well as keep their presence in the global market.
Now in its fourth year, the Young Designer Competition offers young designers an opportunity to showcase their skillset through their interpretation of a predetermined design brief. This year’s brief was put together by Cyril Naicker and is built on the concept of Slow Fashion with emphasis on craftsmanship, quality and functionality linked to a more sustainable future. The competition is open to designers who are graduating this year or have recently graduated, or are currently part of a design internship program.
In conjunction with allfashion sourcing and the Cape Town Fashion Council, the competition features prizes valued more than R80 000,00 with the main prize being an all-expenses paid opportunity to participate at Texworld Paris in 2022 - depending on travel restrictions at the time of the show and includes a R15 000 cash prize for the winner and R5 000 for the runner up.
In addition to this, Plain Tiger, the global platform for conscious luxury, is offering the winner a sponsored slot on their flagship Sustainability Accelerator Program and a place to sell their new creation on their e-commerce platform.

allfashion sourcing Cape Town 2021, is as a hybrid event with an exclusive pop-up showroom concept displaying a variety of fabrics, ready-to-wear garments and footwear from local manufacturers and suppliers. Alongside the pop-up showroom features an online platform for visitors to virtually meet and network with exhibitors, stream an array of fashion shows and join seminars to learn from industry expert speaker delivering industry insights.
The event will take place from 19-21 October 2021 at the Look Out venue in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
