Zikhona would always make alterations, snip here and there, add embellishment, and turn an ordinary ensemble into something fabulous. The Zee-M Collection has exciting product ranges. All products are eclectic and one of a kind. Zikhona likes to experiment with different kinds of vibrant fabrics, and also creates interesting fabrics by tie-dying them.   3. Nini – Nini is a small enterprise consisting of two East London artists. This enterprise is situated in Kids Beach, a small seaside village near East London. All the products are self-designed, and then hand screen printed on natural fabrics. The Nini team also sew their own products. She holds a LLB Law Degree from the University of The Gambia and is the creative director and founder of Tiga. As a frequent swimmer, she realized that there is a gap in the market for locally handmade swimwear that fit comfortably using beautiful African fabric. Ms. Njie started making swimwear samples to test the market, which responded favourably to the demand for African fabric swimwear. Recognizing the interest and potential in her products, Ms. Njie launched Tiga in 2016.  Today, Tiga products could be purchased from different locations in The Gambia. Tiga celebrates the beautiful vibrancy of African fabric, the creativity of regional fashion and the importance of locally produced art. Ms. Njie also leveraged the demand for her swimwear to expand Tiga products to leisurewear, accessories and households.  Tiga’s latest products include ‘Basang’ leather laptop bags, kaftans made with Keffiyeh shawl garment, recycling car tires into furniture and upcycling furniture. Tiga’s primary market is tourists, Gambians in The Gambia and diaspora. Most tourists come to The Gambia to enjoy the beautiful beaches, Atlantic Ocean and almost year round warm weather. Thus, the demand for an indigenous product such as Tiga’s has great potential to increase.By obtaining our materials on the continent and working with local tailors and artisans the goal is to create sustainable jobs, foster generational wealth and enhance the social and economic development of the youth in western Africa. Tiga’s goals include economic and social contributions in Gambian communities. Tiga will recruit and train young girls interested in learning to work with African fabrics and those interested in learning art and design. Tiga will also have outreach programs to assist girls to have confidence in themselves and their own body shapes. With these activities, Ms. Njie believes that the Tiga brand can be a great way to showcase the talents of young African entrepreneurs and be a great source of economic prosperity for The Gambia.

The narrative focuses on the situation we are facing with COVID-19, hence it is called C-19. Collaborating with local artisans, with whom she co-created the designs and patterns using a batik technique, and realising that we have got so much to embrace in terms of sustainability were the creative inspiration. The colours of the collection, green and purple were inspired by and signify Strength and Nature. “It means everything to me-time was short and we had a lot of challenges but we didn’t allow it to stop us from delivering.
